To celebrate 100 Years of Vision, Saks, Taylor and Brauer Optometrists are giving back to the community of Pretoria, who have supported us over our century of existence. Instead of spending money on a lavish celebration, we are instead donating a percentage of each patient’s eye-examination fee to Prinshof School for the Visually Impaired.
This incredible school provides quality, specialised education to blind and partially-sighted learners from across the country.
On Thursday 19 May, Saks, Taylor and Brauer handed over the first of our three donations to Prinshof School for the Visually impaired in 2022.
Prinshof School for the Visually impaired is proud to be the best-equipped school for visually impaired learners in South Africa – they are a resource for many other schools. The vision of the school is to provide excellent and relevant specialised education to visually impaired learners from all cultures in accordance with the constitutional rights of every individual.
Many of the learners enrolled at Prinshof come from very poor socio-economic backgrounds and they often come to the school emotionally neglected. 80% of the learners are living on grants. Prinshof tries its best to provide what it can at the school for the learners. The school is determined to provide that which is important and necessary to empower and prepare the learners for life after school. It is Prinshof’s commitment to world-class care and excellent service which resonates deeply with the team at Saks, Taylor & Brauer – making it an easy and exciting decision to support them through this Centenary initiative in 2022.
The donations from Saks, Taylor and Brauer enable the school to buy much-needed supplies to equip both learners and parents in these cold winter months. The first donation in 2022, which totalled R37 560, means that we have enabled the purchase of warm winter jackets, food parcels and toiletries for 171 needy learners. This is going to greatly improve the welfare of both learners and their parents. We are determined to make an even greater impact in the months to come!
Building a business that can remain resilient and relevant through decades of change is itself an achievement which we are proud of at Saks, Taylor & Brauer. Today, we remain the longest-serving Optometric practice in Pretoria, and the second-longest in existence in South Africa, as we celebrate our Centenary Year in 2022. Throughout these decades of service, we have had the privilege to touch the lives of thousands of individuals and families – many of whom have been patients of ours for decades.
